EVENT PLANNING
During the fall of 2019 I was involved in the planning process of a local corporate awards show, the Progress Awards, through a class at the Missouri School of Journalism. Within this class I learned about all of the initial planning, budgeting, promoting, and organizing that goes into planning a large-scale event for a client. We dealt with everything from researching fun room décor to organizing catering to lighting and production details on the day of.
My initial class team designed and pitched the winning event theme and concept for the awards show called “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It”, which consisted of a light and airy cloud décor. From this point on, I was placed in the Event Production team and was in charge of organizing the overall planning and execution of the event itself. I specifically oversaw the catering and silent auctions teams to make sure everything was completed in a timely and efficient manner. I served as the main point of contact between our event class and the client, making sure each side had everything they needed. Come event day, I helped oversee the entire event prep, execution, and tear-down.
Overall, it was a great experience and I learned a lot about not only planning an event but also effectively leading a team.
Below are some pictures of the 2019 Progress Awards, which was a huge success based on feedback from both our client and attendees!
