Trek Launches Bicycle Made for Seniors at First Annual Bike For Life Event

WATERLOO, WI (Nov. 22, 2019) – Trek Bicycle is launching their brand-new senior-style bicycle at the first annual Bike For Life event during National Bike Month in May. This new bike line is designed to make bike riding easier for those aged 65 and up.

The senior-style bike will feature an extra comfy seat, lightweight frame, lower crossbars for easy mounting, fat tires for added stability and an electric option for easier riding. As people begin to age their physical abilities start to deteriorate, but that shouldn’t stop them from having fun and staying active. With these new modifications to the traditional bike model, Trek wants to show older community members that they are still capable of doing a lot on their own.

“We’re so happy to finally bring this new product to the public and make riding a bike as easy as it was when we were kids,” Trek CEO John Burke said.

The family-owned bicycle company has partnered with League of American Bicyclists to host a traveling bike-themed event aimed at encouraging people to get outside and ride a bike. Bike For Life will be located in a number of different cities throughout the country each weekend during the month of May, which was named National Bike Month by League of American Bicyclists in 1956. The Bike For Life events will feature a “try-out” station for the new senior-style bike where individuals will be able to test out and ride the new model. Other activities will include cycling races for different age groups, an obstacle course for skilled riders, bike repair learning stations, as well as food truck vendors and live music.

“I’m so excited that Trek came to us with this great idea,” League of American Bicyclists Community Outreach Chair Sarah Hyland said. “We hope to see people all over the country enjoying all the fun and joy that comes with riding a bike.”

The senior-style bicycle will be available to purchase on-site at all Bike For Life events as well as online on Trek’s website. All Trek retail store partners in the United States will also be receiving shipments of the bicycle within the coming months.

The confirmed cities for Bike For Life events so far include Kansas City, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, FL, Seattle, Austin, TX, Nashville, TN, New Orleans, and Washington D.C. Specific dates and locations for all Bike For Life events will be announced at the beginning of January 2020.
