Alpha Omega Epsilon Will Hold Its Annual Volleyball Tournament for True North Women’s Shelter

COLUMBIA, MO – Mizzou’s engineering sorority Alpha Omega Epsilon will be hosting its third annual sand volleyball tournament to help raise money for their philanthropy True North of Columbia.

The A.O.E. volleyball tournament is a one-day event held to benefit True North of Columbia, a domestic and sexual violence shelter for women and children in the Columbia, Missouri area. Their goal is to provide a safe environment by educating, empowering, and advocating for victims of domestic and sexual violence. This year A.O.E. will be co-hosting the event with Mizzou’s engineering fraternity Sigma Phi Delta.

Participants of the event can sign up with a team to compete in a sand volleyball tournament and the winning team will receive a mystery prize. Guests are also invited to come and watch the tournament while playing other outdoor games such as Baggo and washers as well as enjoy food and drinks from the event location Deuce Pub & Pit.

With last year’s tournament canceled due to rain, Alpha Omega Epsilon’s philanthropy chair Maria Howell is hoping to raise more money this year for True North.

“They run on donations, so [the money] would help with making sure the women there have the supplies they need to be successful,” Howell said.

Alpha Omega Epsilon decided to partner with Sigma Phi Delta to bring in more participants and continue to strengthen the relationship between the two engineering organizations.

The sorority will also be celebrating their chapter’s Founders Day at this event.

The volleyball tournament will be held on April 21, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Deuce Pub & Pit and is open to the public. To sign-up for a team be on the lookout for an online Sign-Up Genius on Alpha Omega Epsilon’s Facebook page as well as their flyers around

Mizzou’s campus closer to the event date. The cost to register has not yet been set but Howell said it will be around $60 per team.
