TBL Cancels All Regular Season Games in Light of the Coronavirus

Indianapolis, IN - Evelyn Magley, CEO of The Basketball League (TBL), has announced a bold solution to the current Coronavirus situation affecting the world and sporting events. Effective today there will be no more regular season games played in current venues.

Due to health risks for fans and players coupled with the reaction of major NCAA leagues cancelling their conference tournaments and universities and public schools that host many of the games closing down, this appears to be the most responsible move TBL can make.

“We are ‘A Different League’ and as such always want to keep our players and fans’ health as a top priority.  At the same time, we owe it to our teams to give them more opportunities to be seen as well as a true championship that they all play for,” said Evelyn Magley.

The third year league will instead host a four day all-league tournament, without fan attendance, March 19 - 22, 2020 in Owensboro, KY at the Owensboro Sports Center. The format for the tournament will be as follows:

  • Teams seeded 5-12 will play on Thursday, March 19

  • Winners of Thursday games will play teams seeded 1-4 on Friday, March 20

  • Losers of Thursday games will play each other Saturday, March 21

  • Winners from Friday games, the Final four, will play on Saturday, March 21 following the losing bracket games

  • TBL Championship Game will be played on Sunday, March 22

Times of each game and team matchups will be announced on all TBL social media platforms on Thursday, March 12th. All games will be live-streamed via SportsCastr.

In addition, TBL has planned a summer league to be played in Las Vegas this summer during the time of the NBA Summer League, when all of the worlds’ scouts converge in one market to look for players. TBL has a core tenet to help its players be seen and excel in their basketball career, so this event will be free of charge to all current and former TBL players. With the success of former TBL players around the world, this summer league should help pre-qualify their players by drawing in the best scouts and opportunities for them.

The league will also be opening a new division called TBL Tours that will take current and former TBL players around the world, free of charge, to other countries for them to showcase their talents and help them secure more opportunities to play the game they love. While abroad, players will continue to do camps/clinics for youth in the communities they travel to.

TBL would like to thank their faithful fans for their great support as well as the league’s wonderful Team Market Owners for doing what is right for their players and communities.

The Basketball League is looking forward to an even bigger year four!
