The World’s Most Remote Island Offers a FREE Trip of a Lifetime
LONDON (Oct. 20, 2019) – The island of Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic Ocean is inviting 10 lucky people from around the world to experience an all-expenses paid trip like no other.
They’re looking for environmentalists and wildlife enthusiasts alike to spend a week on the island helping clean and update the land while enjoying all it has to offer. Because of the island’s small size, Tristan is holding a contest to determine who will be selected for this opportunity.
Tristan da Cunha is a small island of a mere 246 citizens, excluding the wildlife population. While islanders try to keep their carbon footprint small, they want to continue to improve by building a new solar panel on the government building. The ocean surrounding the island has also been unkind, washing up bits of trash on the shorelines. The contest winners will spend a portion of their stay helping the locals install the new solar panel and clean up the shoreline, as well as freshening up the famous “Café da Cunha” with new paint.
“We’re a small, but mighty community,” Governor Hill said. “We value mother nature who gave us this beautiful land to live on. It’s important to protect and preserve it in any way possible.”
Contest winners will stay in one of 11 privately owned guest houses on the island. They will be paired with a local island expert to show them around and guide them in some of the many fun activities and excursions Tristan has to offer. From fishing and golfing to hiking a volcano and spotting local wildlife, there’s something for everyone.
“I can’t imagine living in a better place,” local islander Laura Hagan said. “Who else can say they live next to a volcano and see penguins on their morning walk?”
Taking care of the environment is something those who live on the island hold deep in their hearts. Now, they want to open their home to others who feel the same way.
The contest will be online and requires applicants to submit a video of themselves answering a short series of personal questions and why they wish to travel to the island. The head of the tourism department, Dawn Repetto, will select the 10 winners who will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the island. The contest is open to all countries and ages (children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult).
